A New Habit

Every morning  for the last 6 years, I’ve read My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers… Everyday, there are 3-4 paragraphs to read that correspond to a passage of Scripture. Chambers was such an incredible man of God, and his wisdom just drips off the pages of the book. Though I’ve read it 6 times now, May 16th’s devotion really stuck out to me… And I’m still thinking about it 2 weeks later. Oswald writes about how believers must get into the habit of recognizing God’s gracious provisions, instead of dwelling on their circumstances and indulging in self-pity.

Hellooooo, conviction. It’s so easy for me to get caught in that awful cycle of self-pity… When the neighbors upstairs are acting more like elephants than humans, I find myself ungrateful for the beautiful apartment that God has provided for Aaron & I to live in. When I see pictures of my friends & family hanging out together in Florida, it’s like I completely forget about the incredible friends that God has blessed Aaron & I with here in Arkansas. When I am bombarded by other photographer’s tweets & blog posts about having back-to-back weddings booked all summer, I quickly start whining that I’m not in the same boat and totally disregard the clients that God has already provided me with after only moving 2 short months ago.

The bottom line is that I want to be a person that’s marked by an attitude of gratefulness and that practices the habit of recognizing His provisions in every area of my life.

On that note, I am so very grateful for the day of rest that He provided for Aaron & I yesterday to enjoy with our awesome new friends at Beaver Lake. :)

Happy Tuesday! :)

Barbara - I just started reading Chambers again and found the updated version on Spencer’s night table…which I quickly confiscated but am waiting for him to steal it back. My May fav was May 11….”And the Holy Spirit reveals to me that God loved me not because I was lovable, but because it was His nature to do so. Now He commands me to show the same love to others by saying, “…love one another as I have loved you” John 15:12. Yes, oncvicting, but also encouraging as He works in me for His glory!ReplyCancel
