Wedding Wednesday | DIY Chalkboard

I’ve always wanted to hop on board this ‘Wedding Wednesday’ blogger trend, but I never felt ‘legit’ enough. You know, since I’d never had a wedding. Obviously, I’m an expert now (false), but I would love to be able to share some of the time and money savers I found along the way while planning our wedding.

I’ve always been a big fan of antique malls, even though spending more than 20 minutes in one will send me into a crazed allergic reaction. Totally unfortunate, I know. One Saturday, my mom and I were on a quest for lace curtains (different project for another post), and we came upon an outdoor antique mall… That was overrun by cats. This would have been nice to know ahead of time because I probably would have taken a Benadryl or not gone to it at all. Now looking back, I’m glad we didn’t know this cause we did find some some golden treasures…

Just kidding… Those are horrific, and I apologize if they give you nightmares tonight. But my mom & I did stumble upon an awesome framed canvas. Honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the lovely painting (I know, crazy), but it was perfect for a Pinterest project that wanted to do for the wedding. So I bought this framed painting for $4 and totally revamped with a little bit of white paint & chalkboard spray paint.

Looking back now, I wish I had sanded down the canvas before painting it with the chalkboard paint because it had originally been painted with lots of varying textures. I’m sure there’s a much more official artist term for this kind of paint. There’s a few places on the canvas that are pretty difficult to write on with chalk, but it still worked. Here’s the final product:

If there would have been a little more money in the budget, I probably would have hired a calligrapher to write out the timeline, but for a $8 project, I’d say it turned out great… And it was a great way to show guests our story, without them having to read or listen to an entire novel. :)

One of the best things about my wedding projects is that most of them have been able to find a home in our little apartment of love. Now, our chalkboard is displayed as one of the first things you see when you walk in… And it’s so easy to change it week to week!

Projects like these are what made wedding planning bearable… Especially when you had such a cute assistant like this! :)

Happy Wednesday! :)
